D A M B I  K I M

(1990)

multi-sensory performance artist

tea & incense ceremony master

herbal forager, researcher & alchemist

travel astrologer and life consultant

Dambi tries to deliver the serenity and transience of life through tea, incense, words and sounds. By playing a Korean traditional black zither, she was first introduced to the way of tea. Philosophically, medieval Japanese Tea Master, Sen Rikyu’s wabi-sabi teaching immensely caught her mind. She simply wanted to put it into practice in her every day life. She fell in love with Chinese tea during her sojourn in Europe. She returned to Asia to learn Eastern tea and incense ceremony as well as Buddhist cuisine which can nurture the humble state of body and mind.

While sheltering in her Mind Temple away from the contaminated planet during the pandemic, Dambi woke up from a long digital hibernation and stepped outside of the comfort zone. Uploading ancient technology on the virtual-spiritual world, Dambi conducts researches on herbs & plants to produce functional foods and drinks and invite guests to holistic experiences in a verbal/non-verbal way. Based on environment, nature, science, philosophy, anthropology, sensory-analysis and modern technology, her ritual-esque service is experimental yet possesses a certain message for humanity.

With her practice, she hopes for a revival of a lost connection between human and non-human beings in a playful manner. She is currently based in Berlin and Seoul working on performances, participatory workshops, food experimentations, and modern rituals.
